Egypt Daily News – The Egyptian Ministry of Social Solidarity announced it has received a donation of EGP 38 million from an Egyptian businessman to support the families of the victims of the tragic road accident that occurred last Friday in Monufia Governorate. The donation will provide EGP 2 million to each affected family.

The ministry will coordinate with the General Foundation for Social Solidarity and Nasser Social Bank to ensure the donations are delivered to the families.

Tragic Incident

The fatal accident took place on the regional highway in the Ashmoun district of Monufia when a microbus collided with a heavy transport truck. The crash claimed the lives of 19 young women and the driver, while 3 others were injured. All the victims were from the village of Kafr El-Sanabsa in Menouf and were on their way to work.

Honoring the Victims

In tribute to the victims, the Egyptian government has decided to name public buildings and streets in Kafr El-Sanabsa after each of the deceased young women.

On Sunday, the Cabinet announced that Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had directed authorities to complete repairs and maintenance of the regional ring road within a specified timeline, implementing strict safety measures.

Madbouly stressed the need to separate private vehicles and heavy trucks in areas under development, increase traffic patrols, and expand the use of speed cameras and surveillance systems to enforce traffic rules.

He also ordered surprise drug tests for truck drivers on highways and called for stricter penalties, including reviewing possible legal amendments.

In addition, the Prime Minister instructed the Ministers of Education and Higher Education to exempt the victims’ families from tuition fees. The Minister of Social Solidarity was directed to provide exceptional pensions for the affected families.

Public Prosecution Report

The Public Prosecution confirmed that the truck driver involved in the accident was under the influence of drugs at the time. Laboratory analysis of his sample tested positive for narcotics, and he has been ordered into custody.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi ordered the government to increase the compensation for the victims: EGP 100,000 for each fatality and EGP 25,000 for each injured person, in addition to the amounts already allocated by the Ministries of Labor and Social Solidarity of EGP 500,000.
