In a high-level meeting that underscored Egypt’s central role in the Palestinian issue, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly reiterated Cairo’s unwavering stance on Palestinian rights and national unity. Hosting Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa in Cairo on Sunday, Madbouly strongly rejected any proposals or policies aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians and reaffirmed Egypt’s continued support for Gaza.

“The Rafah border crossing remains open around the clock to facilitate humanitarian aid,” Madbouly said, emphasizing that Egypt remains committed to providing all necessary assistance to Palestinians, especially in the besieged Gaza Strip. He also underscored Egypt’s firm position on the need to preserve the territorial unity of the West Bank and Gaza under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority.

Reaffirming Support for a Two-State Solution

During the meeting, Madbouly restated Egypt’s long-standing support for a two-state solution as the only viable path to peace. “The Palestinian people must be granted their legitimate rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” he said.

He also condemned continued Israeli settlement expansion and the systematic demolition of Palestinian homes across the occupied territories, calling these actions a flagrant violation of international law.

Ongoing Diplomatic and Humanitarian Efforts

Madbouly detailed Egypt’s diplomatic efforts in collaboration with international actors such as Qatar and the United States, aimed at achieving a lasting ceasefire in Gaza and securing a steady flow of humanitarian aid into the war-torn enclave.

He also referenced Egypt’s active participation in international forums, most recently the Peace Summit co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France in New York on July 28. Madbouly called the summit’s outcomes a “positive step” toward reviving the two-state solution and urged for a defined timetable to officially recognize a Palestinian state, grounded in UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.

Preparing for Reconstruction and Recovery

In a forward-looking move, Madbouly confirmed that Egypt is preparing to host an international “Cairo Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza” following a ceasefire. The planned summit will focus on mobilizing support, resources, and coordination mechanisms to begin rebuilding Gaza, which has endured severe destruction due to months of conflict.

Palestinian PM: Reconstruction Without Displacement

For his part, Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa expressed gratitude for Egypt’s continued support, saying Cairo’s position reflects the “depth of the historic and strategic relationship between the two peoples.”

He emphasized that the Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza’s reconstruction is based on a core principle: rebuilding without displacement. Mustafa said ongoing contacts with international donors are focused on preparing for the post-conflict phase, with active planning underway for reconstruction, funding strategies, and implementation mechanisms.

A Message of Unity and Regional Cooperation

The Cairo meeting serves as a reaffirmation of Egypt’s pivotal role in regional diplomacy and conflict mediation. With tensions still high and the humanitarian situation in Gaza worsening, both Egyptian and Palestinian leadership have projected a united front—one that prioritizes national unity, rejects forced displacement, and insists on a just and comprehensive solution based on international legitimacy.

As Egypt continues its behind-the-scenes efforts to de-escalate the conflict and broker a sustainable ceasefire, Sunday’s meeting signals a broader vision: not just ending the war in Gaza, but laying the groundwork for meaningful Palestinian statehood and long-term regional stability.
