In a significant diplomatic engagement aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and fostering regional stability, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met today with Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, in New Delhi. The high-level meeting underscored the deepening strategic partnership between India and Egypt, against the backdrop of Egypt’s pivotal role in recent efforts to broker peace in the Gaza Strip.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi extended his heartfelt congratulations to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for Cairo’s instrumental role in mediating the Gaza Peace Agreement. Modi lauded Egypt’s leadership and diplomatic acumen in facilitating dialogue and encouraging de-escalation in one of the world’s most volatile regions. He expressed hope that the agreement would pave the way for long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.

Foreign Minister Abdelatty provided Prime Minister Modi with a detailed briefing on the first-ever India-Egypt Strategic Dialogue, being convened during his visit. This newly established dialogue mechanism marks a significant step forward in formalizing and broadening the scope of cooperation between the two nations, which share a long-standing history of mutual respect and non-alignment.

Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction at the trajectory of the bilateral relationship, highlighting substantial progress in key areas such as trade, defence, energy cooperation, technology exchange, and cultural engagement. He emphasized the importance of people-to-people ties in building a resilient and enduring partnership, noting that shared civilizational values and historical connections continue to serve as a strong foundation for contemporary collaboration.

India and Egypt have witnessed a steady upswing in diplomatic and economic relations in recent years, with both nations seeking to align more closely on global issues ranging from climate change to counter-terrorism. The launch of the strategic dialogue is expected to further synchronize their interests on regional security and global governance.

Dr. Abdelatty’s visit also signals a renewed momentum in high-level interactions between New Delhi and Cairo, following President Sisi’s landmark state visit to India earlier in the year. As both countries navigate a rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation reflects a shared vision for a more multipolar and peaceful global order.
