The administration of the Grand Egyptian Museum has announced major changes to its ticketing system as part of a broader plan to modernize visitor management and improve the overall experience at one of Egypt’s most anticipated cultural landmarks.
Beginning Sunday, 16 November, the museum launched a new advance-booking system that requires visitors to reserve entry tickets for specific time slots ahead of their visit. This step aims to regulate daily visitor flow, reduce congestion, and ensure that guests enjoy a smoother and more organized experience within the museum’s expansive galleries and exhibition spaces.
The museum further declared that, starting 1 December 2025, entry tickets will be available exclusively through the museum’s official website. From that date onward, all on-site ticket sales through physical ticket counters will be suspended until further notice, making online booking the sole method for securing admission.
According to museum officials, the decision is part of an integrated digital transformation strategy designed to streamline operations, strengthen crowd management capabilities, and provide a seamless, user-friendly booking interface for both local and international visitors. The shift to digital-only sales is also expected to enhance security, prevent overcrowding during peak tourism seasons, and support the museum’s efforts to protect its world-class collections.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, one of the largest and most technologically advanced museums in the world, is preparing for heightened visitor demand following upcoming expansions and the continued unveiling of new exhibits. Officials noted that the new ticketing system is a step toward aligning the museum with global best practices in heritage tourism management.
Visitors planning trips after 1 December 2025 will be required to book tickets online via the official website, (www.gem.eg) ensuring guaranteed entry times and a more efficient visit experience.
