Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement has decided to resume missile and drone attacks on Red Sea shipping routes and Israeli targets in support of Iran, according to a report by the Associated Press on Saturday.

Citing Houthi officials, the report said the first strike could occur as soon as “tonight,” although the group’s leadership has not yet issued a formal public announcement.

The Houthis, also known as Ansarallah, had previously paused attacks on Red Sea shipping lanes under an arrangement with US President Donald Trump’s administration that led to a halt in US strikes on the group. The movement also suspended direct attacks on Israel following an October 2025 ceasefire that significantly reduced major fighting in Gaza.

The potential resumption of Houthi operations raises fresh concerns over the security of one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors, through which a significant share of global trade and energy supplies passes.

Analysts warn that renewed Houthi strikes could further destabilize regional shipping and widen the already intensifying confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

There has been no immediate official response from Washington or Israel regarding the reported decision.
