Egypt Daily News – The Egyptian men’s handball team faced France in a gripping match on Wednesday evening, which ended in a 26-26 draw. This tie was particularly disheartening for the Pharaohs, as they sought their first historic victory over France after previously losing all seven of their encounters—four in the World Championship and three in the Olympics.
During the match, the Egyptian team fell behind early but managed to take their first lead at 8-7 in the 15th minute. They maintained their momentum, ending the first half with a 15-11 advantage. However, France fought back and equalized at 19-19 in the 42nd minute.
The game remained competitive, with Egypt occasionally pulling ahead, leading 26-25 in the 58th minute. Unfortunately for Egypt, a late equalizer from France, occurring just eight seconds before the final whistle, denied them the win.
Yehia Khaled emerged as Egypt’s top scorer with eight goals, supported by Ahmed Adel with six and Ali Zein with five. Egyptian goalkeeper Muhammad Ali was also a standout performer, making 11 saves compared to just one less by the two French goalkeepers combined.
This result leaves Egypt with three points in the standings, placing them third in their group, while France earned their first point after losing their previous two matches. The Egyptian team now looks ahead to their next challenge against Norway, scheduled for Friday at 10 PM.
