Egypt Daily News – Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused Ukraine of attempting to attack a nuclear plant in the Kursk region amid ongoing military confrontations.

During a televised meeting, Putin reported that “the enemy tried to strike the nuclear plant during the night,” although he did not provide any evidence for this claim.

He also mentioned that the International Atomic Energy Agency has been notified about the situation.

In response to the escalating tensions, the acting governor of the Kursk Province, Alexei Smirnov, reported that over 130,000 residents have been evacuated from the border region, with approximately 20,000 remaining.

Smirnov explained that eight areas with a total population of over 152,000 were part of the evacuation operations.

The Russian Ministry of Defense has claimed that its air force targeted Ukrainian forces in the Sumy District and reported on successful operations against Ukrainian manpower and equipment.

They also indicated that Russian forces had thwarted attempts by Ukrainian troops to advance into several towns in Kursk Province, claiming significant losses on the Ukrainian side.

On the Ukrainian front, President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the Sumy region, marking his first inspection of the area since Ukraine’s military activities began against Russian territory over two weeks ago.

During this visit, he announced that Ukrainian forces had taken control of another settlement within the Kursk province and had captured more Russian prisoners of war, whom he hopes to exchange for Ukrainians held captive.

These military developments have occurred simultaneously with ongoing challenges in the eastern Donetsk region, where Ukraine has been facing losses.
