Egypt Daily News – Significant steps have been taken by Egypt against electricity theft, where offenders caught will be charged 214.5 piasters per kilowatt hour for stolen electricity and which is the highest bracket.

This move is part of a broader strategy to combat widespread illegal electricity theft across Egypt, which reportedly results in losses amounting to millions monthly.

Additionally those found guilty of stealing electricity must repay the equivalent value calculated at the highest consumption bracket for the period of theft, and for a period of the last 12 months. This is aimed at deterring future theft by imposing a financial burden on thieves.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, has emphasized the government’s commitment to taking strict measures against electricity theft, including the elimination of subsidies for those caught stealing electricity. He underlined that such illegal activities not only harm the economy but also undermine societal resources. The government’s actions illustrate its intention to eradicate this detrimental practice, promoting fairness and sustainability in electricity consumption across the country.
