Egypt Daily News – During a recent meeting on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi commended the support Russia has provided for various economic projects in Egypt, highlighting the strong bilateral relations that have developed in recent years.

President Sisi particularly pointed out the significant Russian involvement in national projects, notably the Dabaa nuclear power plant, which is Egypt’s first nuclear facility and is being constructed by the Russian nuclear agency Rosatom.

Russian President Vladimir Putin reciprocated President Sisi’s sentiments, labeling Egypt a “long-term and reliable partner” for Russia and noting that Egypt represents approximately one-third of the total trade volume between Russia and Africa.

This BRICS summit marks Egypt’s debut as a member of the group following its accession in January, coinciding with a challenging economic crisis affecting the nation.

Originally established in 2009 with Brazil, Russia, India, and China, BRICS has since expanded to include South Africa and Iran among other emerging economies.

During his discussions in Kazan, President Sisi aimed to advocate for reforms in the global financial architecture to better serve developing countries. He affirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting BRICS as a robust platform for fostering cooperation among nations in similar stages of development.
