Egypt Daily News – Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces recently attacked the village of Al-Sireha and has resulted in at least 124 deaths plus 100 injured according to reports from activists and doctors.
The attack, which occurred south of Khartoum, also left more than 200 civilians injured, and about 150 individuals arrested by the paramilitary group.
Activists, particularly from the Resistance Committees, suggest that these figures may understate the true extent of the casualties due to challenges in communication, as the Rapid Support Forces reportedly confiscated devices that residents relied on for communication.
The activist, who spoke anonymously for safety reasons, emphasized that over 30 villages in the eastern Jazira region are now abandoned as residents flee from further attacks.
The Sudan Doctors Network corroborated reports of mass killings, describing the incident in Al-Sireha as a massacre against civilians. The chaos has not only resulted in numerous deaths and injuries but has also caused significant displacement.
Due to the ongoing conflict and restrictions on media presence in the area, CNN has been unable to independently verify the details of this incident or the reported numbers. Attempts to reach the Rapid Support Forces for comment have not yet yielded a response.
The backdrop to this violence is the civil war that erupted last year between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has precipitated a serious humanitarian crisis in the region.
