Egypt Daily News – Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant commented on the election of Naeem Qassem as the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, saying: “It’s a temporary appointment, and the countdown has begun.”
Earlier today, Tuesday, Hezbollah announced the election of Naim Qassem as Secretary-General, succeeding the late Hassan Nasrallah, who was martyred in an Israeli raid on the southern suburbs of Beirut on September 27.
The party leadership’s statement read: “Based on faith in God Almighty, commitment to authentic Muhammadan Islam, adherence to Hezbollah’s principles and goals, and in accordance with the established mechanism for electing the Secretary-General, Hezbollah’s Shura Council has agreed to elect His Eminence Sheikh Naim Qassem as Secretary-General of Hezbollah, carrying the blessed banner in this journey, asking the Almighty Lord to guide him in this noble task of leading Hezbollah and its Islamic resistance.”
The statement added, “We pledge to God Almighty and to the spirit of our most esteemed and dearest martyr, His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and the martyrs, the fighters of the Islamic Resistance, and our steadfast, patient, and loyal people, to work together to achieve the principles of Hezbollah and the goals of its path, and to keep the flame of resistance bright and its banner raised until victory is achieved.”
