Egypt Daily News – Negotiations for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah have reportedly advanced significantly, with American officials expressing confidence in a forthcoming agreement.

Following Amos Hochstein’s recent visit to Israel and discussions with Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati, there is an optimistic outlook for a ceasefire announcement before November 5.

Mikati conveyed hope for a resolution within hours or days, referencing Hochstein’s talks during which it was indicated that Hezbollah is reconsidering its stance on separating the Lebanese front from the Gaza conflict.

A document released by the Israeli Broadcasting Authority outlines the proposed ceasefire terms, which include a complete cessation of hostilities between Lebanon and Israel.

The Lebanese army would take charge of enforcing the agreement in southern Lebanon, and the proposal allows Israel to carry out military operations within Lebanon in conjunction with U.S. coordination.

Key terms of the draft include:

  • Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon within seven days after hostilities cease.
  • A ceasefire lasting 60 days, during which the Lebanese army will deploy along the border and take measures to confiscate Hezbollah’s weapons.
  • Following this period, indirect negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the U.S., will aim to fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and address any border disputes.

The deployment of approximately 10,000 Lebanese soldiers would facilitate the presence of UN peacekeeping forces along the border, further solidifying the ceasefire arrangements.
