Egypt Daily News – On Sunday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati left for Washington to hold talks with a number of senior officials in the administration of the new US President Donald Trump and members of Congress, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the visit “comes within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations and strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States” in addition to “consultation on regional developments.”

Egypt announced on Sunday that it will host an emergency Arab summit on February 27 to “address the dangerous developments of the Palestinian cause.”

The “emergency Arab summit” comes at a time when Egypt is gathering regional support against Trump’s proposal to transfer the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt and Jordan with Washington’s supervision of the Strip.

A statement on Sunday said that the call to the meeting comes “after consulting and coordination by Egypt and at the highest levels with the sisterly Arab countries in recent days, including the State of Palestine that requested the summit, in order to address the emerging and dangerous developments of the Palestinian cause.”

Last week, President Trump raised during his reception at the White House for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, an unprecedented idea that the United States would control Gaza with the aim of its reconstruction and development economically after the Palestinian sector residents are deported to Egypt and Jordan, who however rushed to reject this idea, similar to what the Palestinians did and several countries around the world as well.
