Al-Azhar is reviewing a poetry collection by Ahmed Douma after he was accused of blasphemy

Egypt Daily News – The Public Prosecution has assigned a committee of specialists from Al-Azhar Al-Sharif to examine the phrases in a poetry collection titled “Curly” by Ahmed Douma, which contains phrases that insult the divine and show contempt for religions.

The Attorney General, Counselor Mohamed Shawky, ordered the investigation into the complaints submitted by many individuals regarding the publication of a poetry collection that includes phrases that insult the divine and show contempt for religions.

Upon reviewing the poetry collection – the subject of the complaint – via the international information network, the Public Prosecution found that it contained those phrases, and ordered the police to investigate the incident.

The Attorney General, Counselor Mohamed Shawky, also ordered the investigation procedures into the complaints submitted by many individuals regarding the publication of a poetry collection by poet Ahmed Douma, which includes phrases that constitute an offense against the divine self and contempt of religions.

The Public Prosecution ordered the police to investigate the incident and tasked a committee of specialists from Al-Azhar University to examine the verses of that diwan, and the investigations are ongoing.
