Egypt Daily News – The new US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, addressed the ministry’s employees after taking the oath, saying: “We will work to ensure that our foreign policy serves American interests, and we will work to promote peace in the world and avoid conflicts, but not at the expense of America’s national security.”
The US Secretary of State continued: “Our ministry must take steps forward in a rapidly changing world, and America’s foreign policy will be more realistic.”
He added that Trump wants to spread peace in the world and this is what we will work on, stressing that his mission as US Secretary of State will not be easy.
“We want to be at the centerpiece, we want to be at the core of how we formulate foreign policy, because we’re going to have the best ideas of any agency, and because we’re going to execute it better and faster and more effectively than any other agency in our government,” Rubio told State Department staff.
He was proud to lead “the most effective, the most talented, the most experienced” diplomatic corps in the history of the world, he said.
The Senate unanimously confirmed Rubio’s appointment to secretary of state Monday evening, making Rubio the first confirmed Cabinet member of the second Trump administration.
Rubio, a Cuban American son of refugees, is the first Hispanic American ever to hold this position.
“It’s an incredible honor to be the secretary of state of the most powerful, best country in the world,” he continued in Spanish, thanking President Donald Trump for the opportunity.
