Egypt Daily News – Engineer Mohamed Amer, head of the Railways Authority, explained that the continuous population growth in Egypt necessitates the construction of new stations capable of accommodating the increasing number of passengers.

He said in a phone interview with “Extra News” channel that the Ramses station in Egypt was suitable at the beginning of its establishment when the population in Egypt was around 20 million. However, with the current increase that has reached 120 million, it has become necessary to have additional stations to alleviate the pressure on the main station.

Amer pointed out that the Upper Egypt train station in Beshteel, which was specifically designed for this purpose, is a pivotal point between Cairo and Giza and accommodates 250,000 passengers daily.

He added that the station includes advanced capabilities, including tracks extending 22 kilometers and platforms dedicated to both the northern and southern lines, making it capable of alleviating the pressure on Ramses Station.

The head of the authority explained that the new station is also connected to the alternative Manashi line for the Alexandria-Cairo line, in addition to containing a freight train line that fully connects the Port of Alexandria with Upper Egypt, contributing to improving train movement and increasing its efficiency.

He concluded that the Bashteel station surpasses the Ramses station by an area of 60 acres and is equipped with the latest technologies to facilitate passenger movement and reduce congestion at the Ramses station.
