Russia criticizes the UN Security Council for its silence over Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria

EgyptDailyNews - On Sunday, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, criticized the UN Security Council. For his failure to act on the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria, he urged an end to the bloodshed in the Middle East during the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

“It is unfortunate that, unlike today’s meeting, you did not propose to present it to the Council’s briefing on April 2,” he said, adding that Russia had called an emergency meeting to discuss the Israeli strike against the Iranian consulate buildings in Damascus.

Nebenzia criticized Israel; For its failure to comply with UN Security Council resolutions, which he described as “a clear lack of respect for the Council, and for all of you who are here in the member seats, and a complete disregard for the decisions taken by the Security Council.”

“This high-level confrontation and bloodshed must stop,” Nebenzia said. “We believe it is urgent that the entire international community make all necessary efforts to calm the situation.”

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced, in a statement, on Saturday evening, that “in response to the crime of the Zionist entity and its attack on the consulate of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, the Air Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard bombed certain targets in the territory of the Zionist entity with dozens of drones and missiles.”

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard confirmed that “the retaliatory operation against Israel is called the True Promise.” The White House announced that US President Joe Biden is in contact with Israeli officials regarding the Iranian attack using drones and missiles against Israel.

Meanwhile, a Pentagon official told RIA Novosti on Saturday evening that “the United States is aware of reports about Iran launching an attack on Israel using drones.”

The American ABC channel reported, “The United States shot down some Iranian drones heading to Israel.”
