Egypt Daily News – Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Annalena Baerbock, the German Foreign Minister, on Thursday. The meeting took place on the side-lines of the ministerial meeting on Syria held in Paris. The discussions focused on regional developments, particularly the situation in Syria, and ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Germany.
During the meeting, Minister Abdel Atty praised the high levels reached in Egyptian-German relations across various fields. He noted that Germany is one of Egypt’s largest partners in the economic and developmental sectors, with major German companies actively involved in implementing national projects in Egypt.
He emphasized the importance Egypt places on enhancing its economic and developmental ties and the necessity of encouraging more German investments, particularly in the fields of energy, transportation, and green transformation.
Minister Abdel Atty also expressed Egypt’s aspiration for Germany’s support within European Union institutions to secure the second tranche of the economic support package under the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Egypt and the EU, valued at 4 billion euros.
The two ministers exchanged views on regional developments, with Minister Abdel Atty outlining Egypt’s efforts to solidify the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, including all its provisions and three-phase timeline. He stressed the importance of ensuring the flow of humanitarian and relief aid into Gaza and highlighted the necessity of initiating early recovery and reconstruction efforts while ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land.
