Egypt Daily News – The General Administration of Customs Policies and Systems at the Customs Authority announced a ban on the import of tuk-tuks, three-wheeled cars, and motorcycles for the purpose of trade, while personal use will be excluded from the recent decision.
Ahmed Abu Al-Hassan, Director of the Central Administration of the Customs Authority, said that Circular No. 51 of 2024 from the Customs Authority included a ban on the import of tuk-tuks or motorcycles for merchants or agents working in Egypt, while personal use will be permitted, in accordance with the import rules regulated and subject to the Import and Export Law.
Banning the import of tuk-tuks to control markets
Abu Al-Hassan explained, that the decision to ban the import of tuk-tuks and motorcycles from abroad aims to control the market and implement a previous request submitted by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade No. 1569, dated last October 9, in contrast to the letter received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Industry and Trade, and the instructions of the Free Zone Affairs Sector at the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones regarding the matter.
For his part, the Head of Egyptian Customs directed the Technical Office Sector, the Head of the Central Administration of Customs of the Western Region, and the General Administration of Free Zones in the Customs Zones to take the necessary measures with the entry into force of the new decision.
