Egypt rejects any military presence from outside the countries on or bordering the Red Sea

Egypt Daily News – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aty confirmed on Saturday that the security of the Red Sea is limited only to the coastal countries, and we do not accept any other military presence there.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also stressed during a press conference with his Eritrean counterpart, Osman Saleh, and his Somali counterpart, Ahmed Faki, in Cairo, on Saturday, that “Egypt, Somalia, and Eritrea agreed on the commitment of the three countries to the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Sudan.”

Badr Abdel-Ati explained that “it was agreed with his Somali and Eritrean counterparts to support the unity and sovereignty of Somalia, and to provide all possible support from Egypt and Eritrea to extend its control over the entire territory.” He alsothanked Somalia and Eritrea for their support of the Egyptian candidate for the position of Director-General of UNESCO.

The Foreign Minister stressed that Egypt’s rejected the “unilateral” actions regarding shared water resources, and the necessity of respecting the rules of international law and adhering to the principle of consensus among the Nile Basin countries.
