Egypt Daily News – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty confirmed that no Palestinian faction will have a role in governing the Gaza Strip during the transitional period, stating that an independent Palestinian committee will manage Gaza during this phase.

Speaking at a press conference with the European Union’s foreign policy chief, Kaja Kallas, Abdelatty added that the Palestinian Authority will take over Gaza’s administration after a six-month transitional period.

He also called for the full implementation of the Gaza agreement in all its stages and strict adherence to its terms.

Red Sea Security

In another context, the Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed that there is no justification for escalation and targeting ships in the Red Sea, asserting that militarizing the Red Sea does not serve any party. He emphasized the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and called for an immediate halt to attacks on ships in the area.

“No Role for Hamas”

For her part, Kallas stated that the European Union supports the Arab plan for Gaza’s reconstruction and will contribute to its implementation, affirming the EU’s rejection of any role for Hamas in Gaza’s future.

Meanwhile, Munther Al-Hayek, the spokesperson for the Fatah movement in Gaza, urged Hamas on Saturday to step down from governance to safeguard the Palestinian presence.

Speaking to AFP, Al-Hayek said, “Hamas must show compassion for Gaza, its children, women, and men. We warn of difficult and harsh days ahead for the residents of the Strip.”

He also called on Hamas to exit the political scene, stressing that the next battle is about “the very survival of the Palestinian presence,” as he put it.
