Egypt Daily News – Egypt will officially begin applying daylight saving time for the year 2025 on Friday, April 25, by moving the clock forward by 60 minutes, in accordance with Law No. 24 of 2023. This law reinstated the daylight saving system after a 7-year suspension.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi ratified the law on April 16, 2023, setting the annual start of daylight saving time for the last Friday of April, and its end for the last Thursday of October each year.
End of Winter Time
Egypt is currently operating under winter time, which began at midnight on October 25, 2024, when clocks were set back by one hour. With the end of April approaching, clocks will automatically shift to daylight saving time, moving one hour forward.
How Does Daylight Saving Time Affect Daily Life?
Daylight saving time aims to conserve energy by making use of longer daylight hours. The additional hour of sunlight helps reduce reliance on artificial lighting. This system is already in place in about 70 countries around the world.
Adjusting Devices for Daylight Saving Time
Starting Friday, April 25, smartphones, digital clocks, and internet-connected computers will update the time automatically.
For devices that are not connected to the internet or if auto-update fails, users can manually adjust the time by:
- Going to device settings
- Selecting “Date and Time”
- Moving the clock forward from 12:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
This measure is part of the government’s broader efforts to optimize resource use and ease the burden on electricity consumption, especially during peak hours.
