Egyptian Foreign Minister tells his French counterpart: Israeli decisions hinder efforts to reach a two-state solution

Egypt Daily News – Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received a phone call from Stephane Ségournet, Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, to the caretaker government, who congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of his assuming the position, as well as on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the July 23 Revolution.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, pokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, stated that Minister Abdel Aty praised the historical bilateral relations between Egypt and France, which are based on mutual respect and common interest, stressing that the Egyptian-French partnership has always played a major role in supporting security and stability. He added that the Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his appreciation for the French efforts in support of Egypt in international financial institutions, indicating his aspiration for France to continue its support for Egypt as well within the framework of the European Union, especially in connection with the implementation of various aspects of the process of upgrading relations between Egypt and the European Union to the level of a comprehensive and strategic partnership. And completing the implementation of the financing packages associated with that partnership.

The French Foreign Minister then emphasized the depth and history of Egyptian-French relations, especially with the passage of one hundred years of relations between the two countries, considering Egypt an essential partner for France in the region.

The spokesman added that the call touched on developments in the situation in the region, as the Foreign Minister reviewed the developments related to the war in the Gaza Strip, stressing that international and European recognition of the Palestinian state will serve as a clear message to the international community and inside Israel about the importance of realizing the determinants of peace and moving forward in connection with the vision of a two-state solution.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted the seriousness of the Israeli decisions that obstruct efforts to reach a two-state solution, the latest of which is the designation of UNORA as a terrorist organization and the Knesset’s decision to reject the establishment of a Palestinian state, which is considered a clear repudiation of the decisions of international legitimacy and the terms of reference of the peace process. For his part, the French minister stressed his country’s aspiration to play a pioneering role in moving efforts to resolve the crisis during the next stage.

The spokesman added that the two ministers also discussed developments in Sudan, where the French Foreign Minister listened to the vision of Minister Dr. Abdel-Ati regarding the regional efforts aimed at resolving the crisis, while expressing France’s appreciation for Egypt’s initiative to call for a conference to involve all Sudanese political and civil forces, as the French minister appreciated the Egyptian role in this regard.

At the end of the call, the two ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination to discuss ways to find solutions to the various escalating crises, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening Egyptian-French relations in a way that achieves the interests of the French and Egyptian people.
