Egypt Daily News – South Korea’s anti-corruption agency said that former President Yoon Suk-yeol was arrested hours after hundreds of agency investigators and police officers arrived at his presidential complex.

A group of black SUVs were seen leaving the presidential complex with a police escort.

The Associated Press (AP) quoted the ousted president as saying that “the rule of law has completely collapsed” after his arrest against the backdrop of an investigation into his imposition of martial law.

South Korean Yonhap News Agency reported on Wednesday that investigators who came to the official residence of former President Yoon Suk-yeol with the intention of arresting him were able to enter the residence after climbing the compound’s wall using ladders.

The agency said that “investigators entered the presidential residence using ladders” and broke through “a second barrier,” while footage broadcast by television channels showed investigators entering the presidential complex.

Yonhap reported shortly before that clashes broke out when investigators attempted to enter the presidential residence. The agency said that “investigators engaged in a physical clash while trying to forcefully enter the presidential residence” in implementation of a new judicial order to arrest Yoon.

Yonhap did not clarify which team the investigators clashed with as they attempted to storm the complex. Agence France-Presse correspondents at the site reported that they saw punches flying between the two sides from all directions.

Investigators are seeking to arrest Yoon in connection with his failed attempt to impose martial law in the country. A first attempt to arrest him failed on January 3 after the presidential guard prevented investigators from entering Yoon’s residence while opposition and pro-Yon protesters staged a sit-in outside the complex.

This new attempt was being carried out by a joint team of investigators from the Corruption Investigation Bureau (which opened an investigation into Yoon on charges of rebellion) and the police.

Before they began their raid on Yoon’s residence, investigators warned that they would arrest anyone who tried to prevent them from carrying out their mission.
