Egypt Daily News – In a recent interview with Fox News, Vice President Kamala Harris faced scrutiny over a range of topics including President Joe Biden’s mental health and the administration’s handling of illegal immigration.
The interview took place at a pivotal time for Harris as she seeks to garner support from Republican voters for her presidential campaign.
Harris firmly condemned the actions of former President Donald Trump following the 2020 elections, characterizing them as unconstitutional and emphasizing the need for unity among voters across party lines.
Despite the tense atmosphere described by Reuters, Harris attempted to assert her candidacy by addressing criticisms of the Biden administration’s policies.
During the interview, Fox News challenged Harris on the administration’s response to increasing illegal immigration at the southern border.
In her defense, Harris shifted some of the blame to Republicans for not passing a border bill, stating, “Trump preferred to deal with a problem instead of solving it.” When asked to respond to a grieving woman who testified about her daughter’s death at the hands of an illegal immigrant, Harris expressed sympathy but urged the need to discuss current actionable solutions.
When probed about her support for Biden’s mental fitness, which she had previously endorsed, Harris reaffirmed her belief in Biden’s wisdom and experience while questioning Trump’s fitness for office, asserting that “Joe Biden is not on the ballot, but Donald Trump is.”
Harris also addressed questions regarding the use of taxpayer funds for gender-affirming surgeries for transgender inmates, pointing out that such policies were also upheld during the Trump administration.
She reiterated her inclusive campaign message, stating, “Regardless of your party or who you voted for last time, there is a place for you in this campaign.”
Recent opinion polling indicates that Harris narrowly edged out Trump, garnering 46% support compared to his 43%. Amid the intensified political competition, she is considering an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast, which boasts a diverse audience and has previously been a platform for political discourse across the spectrum.
Meanwhile, voter registration trends in Bucks County show a Republican surge, which could pose challenges for Harris and the Democratic Party as they aim to maintain support in crucial swing areas.
