Egypt Daily News – On Tuesday, the Israeli army announced the start of a military operation in Jenin in the West Bank, dubbed “The Iron Wall,” which the Palestinian Ministry of Health said had so far resulted in the death of two people and the injury of about 35 others.
Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee said that the military operation involved the army, Shin Bet, and border guards to “thwart terrorist activities” in Jenin.
In turn, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu commented on the operation in Jenin on Tuesday, saying: “In Jenin, we are moving systematically against the Iranian axis wherever it sends its weapons.” He added: “The goal of the Jenin operation is to enhance security in the West Bank.”
The official in the Palestinian Red Crescent, Ahmed Jibril, in statements to Al-Hurra, described the situation as “very dangerous,” pointing out that “fire is being fired from planes.” He added: “We were not able to reach all the infected people, and we received appeals to transfer infected cases.”
Meanwhile, the Palestinian security forces affiliated with the Palestinian Authority issued a statement indicating that the Israeli forces opened fire on “citizens and a number of members of the security forces, one of whom is in serious condition” during the storming of the Jenin camp.
Sources reported that Israeli military reinforcements arrived in Jenin, amid heavy gunfire in the target area around the city’s camp. It indicated that Apache helicopters were firing in the vicinity of the camp, while local sources pointed out that there were injuries inside Al-Amal Hospital, including a doctor and a nurse.
The city and the refugee camp in Jenin are a center of Palestinian militant activity, where fighters clash with Israeli forces that carry out large-scale raids, leaving roads and infrastructure destroyed. The cities and villages of the West Bank have witnessed widespread closures by Israeli forces since Monday, restricting the movement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians.
Meanwhile, settlers attacked villages east of the city of Qalqilya and burned homes, vehicles, and commercial facilities, especially in the town of Al-Funduq and Jinsafut, according to sources.
On Tuesday, the Palestinian presidency condemned “the continuing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, the latest of which is the attacks by terrorist settlers,” noting that the attacks aim to “dismember the West Bank.”
Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudainah said, “The far-right Israeli government is trying to drag the West Bank into a comprehensive confrontation… with the aim of escalation and creating a climate of violence and tension.”
He considered that the decision to cancel sanctions on settlers involved in violence, which was taken by US President Donald Trump, after his inauguration on Monday, “encourages them to commit more of these crimes.”
The situation in the Gaza Strip calmed after the ceasefire agreement entered into force on Sunday, and the release of 3 kidnapped Israeli women in exchange for Israel releasing 90 Palestinian prisoners and detainees in its prisons.
In recent weeks, the Jenin camp witnessed a security campaign by the Palestinian Authority against what it described as “armed outlaws,” referring to factions that say their weapons are directed only against Israel.
