Egypt Daily News – Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al -Safadi said that his country’s refusal to displace the Palestinians is not changing, in what can be considered the first response to US President Donald Trump’s call to Egypt and Jordan to receive more Palestinians from Gaza.
Al -Safadi stressed, during a press conference, that his country’s position is that the two -state solution is the way to achieve peace, explaining that the solution to the Palestinian issue is a Palestinian solution, and that Jordan is for Jordanians and Palestine for the Palestinians.
He pointed out that the Kingdom will work with all its partners in the region to advance with clear steps to achieve peace, expressing his aspiration to work with the new American administration and support peace efforts in the region and stressed that the priority now is to establish a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and bring aid to the residents of the Strip.
Trump had said that he wanted Egypt and Jordan to receive around one million Palestinians each from the Gaza Strip in order to bring peace to the Middle East. He told reporters on board the presidential plane, Air Force One: “We are talking about 1.5 million people to cleanse the entire region. As you know, over the centuries, this region has witnessed many conflicts. “I don’t know, but something has to happen.”
Trump said that the transfer of Gaza residents could be “temporary or long-term,” adding: “It is literally a devastated place right now. Everything is destroyed and people are dying there.” He continued: “Therefore, I prefer to communicate with a number of Arab countries and build housing in a different place where they might be able to live in peace.”
The new Trump administration pledged to provide “steadfast support” to Israel without detailing its policy in the Middle East. The latest suggestion would kill the Palestinian cause forever.
