Egypt Daily News – On Friday, the Kremlin noted Donald Trump’s recent statement in which he objected to Ukraine’s use of American missiles to target Russian regions.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said during a media briefing, “The latest statement is fully consistent with our position and (Trump’s) vision of the reasons behind the escalation is also consistent with our vision… It is clear that Trump understands what is causing the situation to escalate.”
In addition, the Kremlin confirmed on Friday that the “preconditions” for holding negotiations on Ukraine have not yet been met, while speculation is increasing about talks in this regard with the approaching return of Donald Trump to the White House in January.
The Kremlin spokesman said during a media briefing, “We do not want a ceasefire, but rather we want peace when our conditions are met and our goals are achieved,” noting that the “preconditions for negotiations” were not met, as Moscow is practically demanding that Ukraine surrender before negotiating with it the conditions for establishing peace.
On the battlefields in Ukraine, Kiev said that Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on Ukrainian energy facilities during the morning rush hour, today, Friday, while explosions were heard in the port of Odessa on the Black Sea and other cities in western Ukraine.
Russia later said it attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in retaliation for Kiev’s use of Atakum missiles it obtained from the United States.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Russia launched 93 missiles and about 200 drones in one of its largest attacks during the war on his country’s energy system.
Zelensky added that air defenses shot down 81 Russian missiles, and F-16 fighter jets shot down 11 of them.
“Russia aims to deprive us of electricity. Instead, we must deprive it of the means of terrorism,” Foreign Minister Andrej Sepha wrote on the X platform. “I repeat my call for the urgent delivery of 20 air defense systems of the (Norwegian) NASAMS, the Hawk missile system or the Iris system – “T”.
Russian forces have targeted Ukraine’s electricity system for most of the year, and increased the pace of their raids last month, causing long-term power outages for millions of civilians as the war approaches its thirty-fourth month.
