Egypt Daily News – The story of the theft targeting Dr. Nawal El-Degwi, Chair of the Board of Trustees of October University for Modern Sciences and Arts (MSA), continues to surprise, sparking widespread controversy on social media over the past week, especially after the discovery of her grandson’s body in his October residence with a fatal gunshot wound.

The Theft Incident

The saga began on May 19 when Dr. El-Degwi reported the theft of 50 million EGP, 3 million USD, 350,000 GBP, and 15 kilograms of gold from her villa in an upscale gated community. During questioning, she stated that upon recently entering the villa, she noticed the safe passwords had been changed, raising her suspicions. After attempting to open them using technical methods, she discovered the contents were missing.

Dr. El-Degwi explained that the money and valuables had been stored in the safes for years and were part of a family inheritance discussed during a meeting nearly two years ago. She hinted that a relative might be behind the crime, prompting security agencies to investigate the movements of family members and frequent visitors to the villa, as well as to review surveillance footage from the area.

The Death of Ahmed El-Degwi

Hours ago, security sources reported that Dr. El-Degwi’s grandson, Ahmed, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his October residence. The Interior Ministry later issued a statement confirming that on May 25, Ahmed’s family informed the First October Police Department in Giza that he had shot himself with a licensed handgun inside his residence, resulting in his death.

Investigations Reveal a Surprise

Authorities revealed that Ahmed had recently been undergoing treatment for psychological issues and had traveled abroad for medical care. He returned to Egypt on the evening of May 24, and legal procedures were followed.

The Interior Ministry addressed circulating social media rumors regarding the circumstances of Ahmed’s death, stating that investigations confirmed the incident was a suicide. No foul play was suspected, given his documented mental health struggles.

Ongoing Developments

As investigations into both the multi-million-pound theft and the tragic death of Ahmed El-Degwi continue, the case remains under intense public scrutiny, with many awaiting further updates from official sources.
