Nazir Ayyad, new mufti

Egypt Daily News – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a presidential decree appointing Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy, as Mufti of the country, for the next four years, succeeding Dr. Shawqi Allam.

According to what Al-Azhar said in an official statement on Sunday evening, the appointment of the new mufti came based on the nomination of Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar.

The new mufti had held the position of Secretary-General of the Islamic Research Academy and worked as a professor in the subject of doctrine and philosophy and deputy director of the College of Islamic and Arab Studies for Girls in Kafr El-Sheikh.

Several positions
The new Mufti also obtained a BA in the Fundamentals of Religion in Doctrine and Philosophy in May 1995, a Master’s in Fundamentals of Religion, specializing in Doctrine and Philosophy in 2000, and then a doctorate in 2003.

He worked as a teaching assistant, then an assistant lecturer, then a teacher, then an assistant professor at the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion, Mansoura University, until he moved from there to the Faculty of Islamic and Arab Studies for Girls, Kafr El-Sheikh University Branch, to work as an assistant professor in the Department of Doctrine and Philosophy.

The new Mufti is a member of the International Organization of Al-Azhar Graduates and the Egyptian Family House.
