Egypt Daily News – Parliament, in a plenary session held today and chaired by Counselor Dr. Hanafi Gebali, Speaker of the Parliament, gave final approval to the amended labor law submitted by the government. This approval came after incorporating a number of amendments, some of which were proposed by members of parliament.

The new law aims to strike a balance between both parties in the production process and aligns with the provisions of international labor conventions and agreements. It is considered one of the tools that can help create an investment-friendly environment without compromising workers’ rights, while also ensuring job security guarantees for employees.

The draft law also seeks to regulate working hours and rest periods fairly, stating that deviations from these regulations are not allowed except for certain jobs defined by a decision from the competent minister.

In addition, the law allows employers to assign work to employees on their scheduled rest days, provided there are justifiable reasons and prior approval is obtained from the relevant administrative authority. This provision is seen as a regulatory measure and not an infringement on the employer’s authority to manage the workplace.
