Egypt Daily News – Today, President El-Sisi received a phone call from Mr. António Costa, President of the European Council.

The spokesperson for the Presidency stated that the call emphasized the importance of continued coordination between Egypt and the European Union on various regional and international issues. The discussion also addressed ways to enhance cooperation between the two sides and intensify efforts to implement all aspects of the comprehensive strategic partnership, in a manner that strengthens bilateral relations in the political, economic, cultural, and scientific fields.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson, noted that the call also covered the latest developments in regional issues of mutual interest, foremost among them the situation in the Gaza Strip.

President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reach an agreement for a ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners and hostages, stressing the need for intensified international efforts to press for an immediate halt to the war and to ensure the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

The spokesperson stated that the call underscored the importance of intensifying efforts to achieve the two-state solution and establish a Palestinian state, as the only path to achieving lasting peace in the region. Both sides stressed the significance of the upcoming Peace Conference and the implementation of the two-state solution, scheduled to be held in New York during June, and the need to increase international recognition of the Palestinian state. They also affirmed their rejection of any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause or forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.

For his part, the President of the European Council expressed the European Union’s support for Egypt’s efforts to restore stability in the region, affirming that Egypt is a key pillar for regional stability.
