Egypt is taking significant steps to establish an integrated national framework for artificial intelligence (AI) governance, emphasizing the technology’s potential to drive economic growth, social development, and digital transformation. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty outlined these initiatives, highlighting the country’s efforts to position itself as a leading regional hub for AI, data centers, and cloud computing.

Speaking at the second edition of the AIDC2 ’25 Conference and Exhibition for Artificial Intelligence, Data Centers, and Cloud Computing, held under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty stressed that Egypt is committed to creating a comprehensive national AI ecosystem. The minister noted that key measures include the establishment of the National Council for Artificial Intelligence and the adoption of a multi-phase national AI strategy.

The strategy focuses on integrating AI into government services, strengthening public-private partnerships, supporting scientific research, preserving linguistic and cultural heritage, and developing human capital across diverse sectors.

The conference, which gathered leading experts, innovators, and entrepreneurs from around the globe, reflects Egypt’s growing prominence as a regional hub for digital innovation. Abdelatty emphasized that the country’s strategic vision aligns with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directives to enhance digital infrastructure, expand investments in the data sector, and leverage Egypt’s strategic geographic position as a global crossroads for submarine communication cables.

In his address, Abdelatty highlighted the transformative potential of AI in improving public services and promoting sustainable development. He noted that AI can accelerate innovation in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and public administration, contributing to a broader economic and social transformation aimed at meeting the aspirations of Egyptian society.

Egypt’s approach to AI governance, according to Abdelatty, reflects a balance between fostering innovation and ensuring responsible and ethical technology deployment. By integrating AI into national planning and encouraging collaboration between the public and private sectors, the country aims to strengthen its competitive edge in the global digital economy while safeguarding cultural and societal values.

The AIDC2 ’25 Conference underscored the importance of international collaboration in AI, data centers, and cloud technologies, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, investment opportunities, and innovation partnerships. For Egypt, these efforts represent a step toward achieving long-term digital resilience, driving inclusive growth, and establishing the country as a benchmark for AI governance in the MENA region.
