Egypt Daily News – President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today, at his residence in the Greek capital Athens, with Mr. Dimitrios Copelouzos, Chairman of the Greek Copelouzos Group for Electricity, as part of his official visit to Greece.

According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, the President emphasized Egypt’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with the Greek group in the field of electricity production from new and renewable energy sources, with the aim of exporting it to Europe via Greece.

This comes within the framework of the electrical interconnection project between the two countries. He stressed the strategic importance Egypt places on this project as a key pillar in securing energy for European countries from Egypt. This aligns with the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and the European Union.

President El-Sisi also highlighted that the project enjoys strong political and governmental support from both Egypt and Greece to advance through its various phases, especially after its inclusion on the list of projects of mutual interest and benefit to the European Union.

This underscores the need to intensify joint efforts between all concerned parties in Egypt and Greece to complete the feasibility studies and move forward with implementation.

Ambassador Mohamed El Shennawy, the presidential spokesperson, added that the meeting included agreement on the importance of leveraging Egypt’s modern electricity infrastructure developed over the past decade, as well as its unique natural resources. These factors position Egypt as a global leader in the production of renewable energy, particularly from wind and solar sources, reinforcing its role as a regional hub for all types of energy trade.
