Egypt Daily News – In a recent archaeological discovery published by “Archaeological Discoveries” magazine, Japanese researcher Akio Kato from Kanagawa University revealed an engineering surprise in the design of the Giza Pyramids in Egypt.

Contrary to the common belief that pyramids have four faces, the study showed that the great pyramids, most notably the Great Pyramid, consist of eight faces, not four as was previously thought.

This discovery is based on a study of the pyramidal structure using aerial photography techniques.

Kato explained that each face of the pyramids is divided into two parts by a central line that descends from the top to the base, which makes the faces curve slightly inward, so that the true shape of the pyramids appears from above, while it remains hidden when viewed from the ground.

The Japanese scientist also confirmed that this phenomenon was not completely hidden throughout history, as the first observations regarding the slight slope of the pyramids go back to aerial photographs taken in the 1940s.

For his part, British archaeologist Flinders Petrie indicated the existence of this decline in illustrations. Scientist E. S. Edwards observed the same phenomenon during his study of the pyramids in 1975.

Kato says that this design was not just a coincidence, but that the ancient Egyptians adopted it to enhance the stability of the pyramids and their resistance to harsh environmental factors such as gravitational pressure, earthquakes, and rainstorms that the region was exposed to over the course of 4,500 years.

He explained that the concave design contributed to distributing loads equally on the structure, which enhanced its durability and ability to withstand harsh environmental changes, as the pyramids faced more than 500 rainstorms throughout their history.

This discovery is a new step towards a deeper understanding of the stunning architecture used by the ancient Egyptians, highlighting their genius in designing structures not only to withstand time, but also to deceive and amaze humanity for thousands of years.
