Three people were killed and ten others injured on Tuesday in a major road accident involving a heavy transport truck and several private cars inside the Autostrad Tunnel, according to security sources. The collision occurred on the route leading from New Cairo’s Fifth Settlement toward Helwan.

Emergency and rescue teams quickly arrived at the scene, located beneath the Middle Autostrad Tunnel in the direction of New Cairo. Specialized units used hydraulic cutting equipment to extract passengers trapped inside the wrecked vehicles, while police officers worked to redirect traffic and restore order to the severely congested roadway.

Police and ambulance services were alerted immediately after the crash, and all the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities are continuing to identify the victims and assess the full extent of the damage.

Initial investigations suggest that the accident occurred when a heavy transport truck (known locally as a “trailer”) collided with several cars inside the tunnel, leading to a chain reaction of crashes that brought traffic to a complete standstill in the direction from Fifth Settlement toward Helwan.

Security and traffic departments have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the incident and to ensure that all necessary legal and procedural measures are taken.
