Egypt Daily News – As part of its ongoing efforts to combat traffic violations and reduce road accidents, the Ministry of Interior has launched a series of wide-scale security campaigns targeting key roadways, including the Regional Ring Road. These operations, conducted by traffic enforcement units, aim to crack down on dangerous driving behaviors and reinforce road safety.
In just 24 hours, authorities recorded 109,438 traffic violations across the country. Offenses ranged from driving without a license and excessive speeding, to using mobile phones while driving, illegal parking, and failure to meet safety and licensing standards.
Drug-Impaired Driving: A Grave Concern
One of the most alarming findings from the campaign was the prevalence of drug use among drivers. A total of 3,793 drivers were tested for narcotics, with 515 testing positive, an indication of how widespread the issue has become. These drivers, operating vehicles under the influence, posed a direct threat to the lives of other motorists and pedestrians.
On the Regional Ring Road alone—an area undergoing active construction and frequently prone to traffic violations, 465 drivers were screened, revealing 48 cases of drug-impaired driving. Authorities stressed that such negligence could lead to catastrophic accidents, emphasizing the importance of strict monitoring and enforcement.
Widening the Crackdown
In addition to traffic violations, the security campaign led to the arrest of 35 individuals wanted in connection with a total of 65 legal cases, and the impoundment of 19 vehicles for breaching road safety laws. Traffic units also issued 1,241 citations for violations including driving against traffic flow, illegal passenger transport, and operating vehicles with compromised structural integrity.
These campaigns form part of a comprehensive security strategy that involves rapid deployment of field units, real-time checks, and the deployment of investigative teams to areas with high traffic congestion and safety risks.

The Interior Ministry stated that these efforts align with the state’s broader traffic safety plan, which prioritizes reducing road fatalities and serious injuries. As Egypt continues its infrastructure development, including the expansion and modernization of roads and highways, enforcement operations are being scaled up to match the pace of progress.
“Our campaigns are not temporary. They will be intensified across all major roads and traffic arteries to ensure public safety,” the Ministry said in a statement.
