Egypt Daily News – U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Thursday the dismissal of National Security Advisor Mike Waltz from his position and nominated him to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

At the same time, Trump assigned Secretary of State Marco Rubio to take on the role of National Security Advisor in addition to continuing his duties as Secretary of State.

He stated in a post on the Truth Social platform: “I’m pleased to announce my nomination of Mike Waltz to be America’s next Ambassador to the United Nations.”

He added: “In the meantime, Marco Rubio will assume the role of National Security Advisor alongside his position as Secretary of State, where he has shown strong and effective leadership.”

This leadership shake-up comes as part of a broader reshuffle of top positions within the administration, amid intensive preparations for the next phase of both domestic and foreign policy.

Earlier on Thursday, Western reports revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump was considering appointing his special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, as the new National Security Advisor to replace Mike Waltz. The report, citing three sources, stated that “Trump is planning to remove Waltz, and Witkoff is the leading candidate to succeed him.”

Meanwhile, other American media outlets, also citing sources, reported that both National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and his deputy, Alex Wong, are expected to leave their positions. The move reportedly follows the leak of secret communications among senior U.S. officials related to American military strike plans on Yemen, an incident now referred to in the media as the “Signal Scandal.”
