Egypt Daily News – A spokesperson for the U.S. Navy stated on Thursday that the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman was involved in a collision with a commercial ship near Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean Sea on Wednesday.
The cause of the collision remains unclear, but the U.S. Navy spokesperson confirmed that it did not result in any water leakage or injuries among the personnel aboard the aircraft carrier. The propulsion systems of the carrier were unaffected and remain “in stable condition.”
A U.S. Navy official added that the commercial ship sustained some damage, but there were no reports of injuries on that vessel either.
An investigation is underway to determine how the collision occurred. The official noted that the area near the Suez Canal, where the incident took place, is typically crowded with ships.
The U.S. Navy statement clarified that “the aircraft carrier collided with the commercial ship the merchant vessel Besiktas-M at approximately 11:46 PM local time on February 12, while operating in the vicinity of Port Said, Egypt, in the Mediterranean Sea. The incident is under investigation, and further information will be released as it becomes available.”
