Egypt Daily News – Russian officials and state media reported that Ukraine launched an attack near a strategic bomber base and that a fire broke out at an airbase near a strategic bomber base following a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack in the south of the country.
The Engels Airbase, located about 700 kilometers from the front lines in Ukraine, houses heavy strategic bombers of the Tupolev Tu-160 type, which are capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
Roman Busargin, the governor of Saratov, stated that a Ukrainian drone attacked the town of Engels, causing a fire at an airbase and prompting the evacuation of residents from nearby areas. He did not specifically mention the Engels Airbase, but it is the main airbase in the region.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that air defenses shot down 132 Ukrainian drones over six different regions in southern Russia, including 54 in the Saratov region, where the Engels Airbase is located.
