Egypt Daily News – The Israeli army has dismissed the deputy commander of the reconnaissance unit in the Golani Brigade following the killing of 15 paramedics in Gaza last March.
The army announced the findings of a brief investigation into the incident, stating that it had committed “multiple professional failures, violations of orders, and a failure to fully report the incident,” according to a report published on its official website.
The Israeli army said that “poor operational coordination” led to the deaths of 15 paramedics in Gaza last month. It added that it “regrets the harm caused to civilians,” and noted that there is an “ongoing effort to learn from operational incidents and reduce the likelihood of similar events in the future.”
The report stated that the army decided to dismiss the deputy commander of the Golani reconnaissance battalion from his position due to “his responsibilities as a field commander in the incident and for providing an incomplete and inaccurate report during questioning.” It also noted that the commander of the 14th Brigade would receive a formal reprimand due to his “overall responsibility for the incident.”
The investigation revealed a series of failures and pointed out that the killing of a United Nations staff member shortly afterward resulted from “a violation of orders during combat conditions.”
