Egypt Daily News – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday evening that, “If it weren’t for my decisions, the city of Los Angeles would have been completely obliterated.” He added, “The Governor of California and the Mayor of Los Angeles chose to lie to the people and to America… they should have thanked me,” referring to his decision to deploy the National Guard to the city, which he called an excellent move.
2,000 National Guard Troops Deployed Amid Los Angeles Protests
According to Agence France-Presse, citing an official source, President Trump ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles in response to ongoing protests sparked by a federal immigration crackdown. The protests erupted following ICE raids targeting undocumented immigrants in the city, drawing widespread criticism from immigrant communities and civil rights groups.
On Saturday, Trump issued a warning that the federal government might intervene directly if the situation continued to spiral out of control. Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, he stated:
“If Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass are unable to do their jobs—which everyone knows they are not—the federal government will step in to solve the riots and looting the way it should be done.”
Protests in Los Angeles Intensify
Protests have been ongoing in Los Angeles since Friday and have drawn strong reactions from the White House. Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff, described the demonstrations as a “rebellion” against the United States.
On Saturday, security forces clashed with protesters in the city’s Paramount area, southeast of Los Angeles. Tensions ran high as demonstrators waved flags—including the Mexican flag—and many wore breathing masks or covered their faces, expressing anger over the immigration raids and what they described as militarized policing.
The situation remains tense, with city and federal authorities exchanging blame over who is responsible for both the unrest and the response. Governor Newsom and other state leaders have condemned the federal approach, while Trump continues to portray the National Guard deployment as necessary to prevent what he described as “total chaos.”
