During a significant diplomatic encounter in Cairo, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, reiterated Egypt’s unwavering call for the international community to intensify support for Lebanon’s reconstruction and stability efforts. His remarks came during an official meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Dr. Nawaf Salam, who is making his first official visit to Egypt since assuming office.

The meeting underscored the deep historical and fraternal ties that bind Egypt and Lebanon, emphasizing the shared cultural and political values between the two nations. Minister Abdel Aaty welcomed Prime Minister Salam warmly, describing the visit as a meaningful step toward bolstering bilateral cooperation and expanding the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Dr. Abdel Aaty stressed Egypt’s readiness to contribute its technical and developmental expertise to Lebanon’s reconstruction process, especially in light of the ongoing economic and political challenges facing the country. He underlined the importance of international backing for Lebanese state institutions to help them regain full control over national governance and to foster lasting stability within the country.

The talks also addressed the broader trajectory of Egyptian-Lebanese relations, which have witnessed a notable uptick in momentum in recent months. Both leaders expressed appreciation for this positive trend and committed to further strengthening coordination and consultation in response to escalating regional challenges. They jointly voiced the ambition to elevate bilateral relations, particularly in economic and trade sectors, signaling an intention to convene the 10th session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Joint Higher Committee in Cairo later this year, under the leadership of both countries’ prime ministers.

Minister Abdel Aaty further emphasized Egypt’s strong support for Lebanon amid ongoing violations of Lebanese sovereignty by Israel. He condemned repeated breaches of the cessation of hostilities agreement and described them as blatant violations of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701. He called for the full and impartial implementation of the resolution by all parties, including an immediate and complete Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon.

Regional developments also featured prominently in the discussions, particularly the situation in Gaza. Minister Abdel Aaty briefed his Lebanese counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire, facilitate the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure unimpeded humanitarian aid access to the besieged enclave. He reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The meeting concluded with a mutual reaffirmation of the enduring bonds between the Egyptian and Lebanese peoples. Both sides pledged to maintain close dialogue and coordination across all levels, aiming to promote stability, prosperity, and deeper regional cooperation.
