This evening, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. António Guterres.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the call focused on the latest developments with regard to the agreement on ending the war in the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi reviewed the content of the agreement reached through Egyptian-Qatari-American mediation, in its various stages.

The President stressed the crucial importance of reaching consensus on all relevant details pertaining to the different phases of the agreement, and underscored the necessity of ensuring its full implementation.

The UN Secretary-General thanked Egypt and President El-Sisi for the efforts exerted to end the war in Gaza. He commended Egypt’s unyielding and massive efforts over the past two years to achieve a ceasefire, alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the people of Gaza, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid into the Strip, in cooperation with the United Nations and all UN and relief agencies. Mr. Guterres said he looks forward to continuing collaborative efforts with Egyptian governmental and relief institutions to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The UN Secretary-General agreed with President El-Sisi on the vital importance of finalizing all details related to the agreement on ending the war, in all its stages. He stressed the need to establish a path conducive to the creation of a Palestinian state, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy, ensuring the indivisibility between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and upholding the right to self-determination.

UN Secretary-General Guterres emphasized the necessity of deploying international forces in the Gaza Strip, and of granting international legitimacy to the agreement reached, through the United Nations Security Council. He further stressed the urgent need to immediately start the reconstruction of Gaza, expressing his support for the conference Egypt is set to host for this purpose.

The UN Secretary-General affirmed that Egypt plays a central and pivotal role in fostering stability in the Middle East and in safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people. He confirmed that the wise leadership of President El-Sisi was one of the key factors that contributed to the conclusion of this significant agreement and the positive outcome it has yielded.

President El-Sisi expressed his profound gratitude and appreciation to the UN Secretary-General for his constructive positions, particularly since the outbreak of the crisis in the Gaza Strip. The President reiterated that Egypt had already begun dispatching urgent shipments of food and medical aid to the Strip immediately following the conclusion of the agreement on ending the war.

The President emphasized Egypt’s support for the role of United Nations agencies, particularly UNRWA, both within Gaza and in host countries of Palestinian refugees. President El-Sisi stressed the crucial need to maintain UNRWA’s historic mandate in providing relief and employment services to the Palestinian people.
