Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Thursday with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, as part of ongoing coordination between the two countries on bilateral relations and key regional crises.

According to diplomatic sources, the call reflected the depth of the longstanding ties between Egypt and the UAE, which have continued to strengthen through close political consultation and cooperation across a wide range of issues. Abdelatty emphasized Cairo’s commitment to building on the current momentum in relations, underscoring the shared interest of both countries in advancing cooperation in ways that serve the interests of their peoples.

The discussions addressed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip amid continued international efforts to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation. Abdelatty welcomed recent initiatives aimed at reviving political momentum toward de-escalation, including proposals put forward by the United States to establish a new framework for peace and post-conflict governance.

The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of moving forward with the next phase of international plans for Gaza, including support for a Palestinian-led national committee to manage the territory during a transitional period. He also highlighted the need for the rapid deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor a ceasefire, facilitate early recovery efforts, and pave the way for reconstruction, while ensuring the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to civilians.

Egypt and the UAE have both played prominent roles in diplomatic and humanitarian efforts related to Gaza, coordinating with regional and international partners to support ceasefire arrangements, deliver relief assistance, and prevent the conflict from spilling over into the wider region.

The conversation also focused on the deteriorating situation in Sudan, where fighting between rival factions has triggered one of the region’s most severe humanitarian crises. The two ministers discussed the importance of maintaining coordination within the framework of the regional and international “quartet” mechanism, which seeks to align diplomatic pressure and mediation efforts.

Both sides emphasized the urgency of reaching a humanitarian truce, establishing safe havens and secure corridors for aid delivery, and ultimately achieving a comprehensive ceasefire. Egypt and the UAE have consistently called for a political solution in Sudan, warning that continued fighting threatens regional stability, food security, and the safety of millions of civilians.

The call underscored Cairo and Abu Dhabi’s shared approach to regional diplomacy, centered on conflict de-escalation, support for state institutions, and expanded humanitarian engagement, at a time when multiple crises continue to strain the Middle East and Northeast Africa.
