Twelve people were killed and three others injured in a devastating collision between two transport trucks and a minibus south of Port Said, in one of the deadliest road accidents in the governorate in recent years.
According to security officials, the crash occurred on the Coastal Ring Road axis within the jurisdiction of the South District. Preliminary reports indicate that excessive speed combined with poor visibility caused by adverse weather conditions contributed to the tragedy.
Major General Mohamed Khalil El-Gamsy, Director of Security for Port Said, received notification from the emergency police operations room confirming multiple fatalities and injuries at the scene. Emergency services were immediately dispatched, with ambulances transporting the three injured victims to 30 June Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The bodies of the deceased were transferred to the morgues of Al-Zohour Hospital and Al-Nasr Hospital, pending investigation by the Public Prosecution and the issuance of burial permits.
Authorities have opened a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. A police report has been filed at the South District station, and forensic teams are working to reconstruct the sequence of events that led to the collision.
Road safety experts note that Egypt continues to grapple with high rates of traffic fatalities, often attributed to speeding, overloaded vehicles, inadequate enforcement and hazardous weather conditions. The latest incident underscores ongoing concerns about highway safety on major intercity routes, particularly during periods of reduced visibility.
Legal procedures are ongoing as prosecutors examine technical reports and witness testimony to determine liability.
