President El-Sisi Reviews Civil Aviation Ministry’s Efforts to Develop Egyptian Airports

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and Minister of Civil Aviation Dr. Sameh El-Hefny. This was followed by another meeting between the President and Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Walid Aref, Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority, Major General Khaled Abdullah, and Chairperson of EgyptAir In-Flight Services Ms. Soheir Abdullah.

Spokesman for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said that the two meetings addressed the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s efforts to develop Egyptian airports and enhance their operational systems in accordance with the latest international standards and practices. In this context, developments in the Terminal 4 project at Cairo International Airport were reviewed. The project aims to increase the airport’s capacity to accommodate passenger and aircraft traffic.

The meetings also followed up on projects to develop and upgrade the airports of Cairo, Luxor, Alexandria, and El Alamein. They also reviewed the construction of a new passenger terminal at Capital International Airport, and the establishment of the St. Catherine and El Arish international airports.

The meetings touched on the updates regarding the plan to offer the management and operation of Egyptian airports to the private sector, as well as efforts to attract more local and foreign investments to this promising sector. Furthermore, they followed up on the work of the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation and the business results of EgyptAir Holding Company for the fiscal year 2024/2025.

The meeting also discussed ongoing efforts to implement digital transformation, particularly at Cairo International Airport. These efforts are being carried out by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Civil Aviation Authority, and affiliated companies. The aim is to improve internal operational efficiency and upgrade services provided to the public. This includes facilitating procedures and providing advanced digital services.

This includes ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Interior to activate electronic passport gates to facilitate travel procedures and improve the passenger experience on all flights in the coming phase, as well as to phase out the use of paper-based passport cards.

The meeting further reviewed the status of EgyptAir’s aircraft and fleet, as well as the impact of the ongoing war in the region on Egyptian airlines, including cancelled flights and overall air traffic in Egypt. The discussions covered steps being taken in the project to develop and raise the efficiency of EgyptAir In-Flight Services, in line with the President’s directives to improve the level of services provided to travelers. In addition, development and efficiency upgrades of the Transit Hotel (Terminal 3) at Cairo International Airport were reviewed.

President El-Sisi emphasized that the development of the national carrier, EgyptAir, is a top priority. The President stressed the necessity of implementing a comprehensive vision aimed at expanding the airline’s fleet, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing the quality of services provided to passengers.
The President also underscored the importance of adhering to environmental standards, increasing profitability, and developing airport operational systems to elevate the level of services provided through this vital facility.
