Senior U.S. envoys are set to travel to Pakistan on Saturday for a new round of talks with Iranian representatives, in what appears to be a renewed diplomatic effort to contain escalating tensions in the region.

According to the White House, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will lead the American delegation in meetings expected to take place in Islamabad. The discussions are aimed at exploring pathways to end the ongoing conflict involving Iran.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed the trip in an interview with Fox News, stating that both envoys would depart Saturday morning to meet Iranian officials. She noted that, unlike previous diplomatic missions, Vice President JD Vance is not expected to join the delegation.

The development comes as Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrives in Islamabad, signaling a parallel diplomatic track. Iranian state media reported that Araghchi’s visit is part of a broader regional tour that will also include stops in Muscat and Moscow.

Tehran has indicated that the purpose of the trip is to hold bilateral consultations and review the latest developments in the region, particularly the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel. Iranian officials are also expected to discuss the broader geopolitical implications of the war and assess possible diplomatic off-ramps.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that U.S. security teams have already been deployed to Pakistan ahead of the talks, preparing the ground for what could become a critical round of negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

The convergence of high-level officials in Islamabad has raised expectations of a potential breakthrough, or at least a framework for continued dialogue, as both sides face mounting international pressure to de-escalate.
