President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a phone call on Sunday with newly appointed Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, extending his congratulations and reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to deepening strategic ties with Baghdad amid mounting regional tensions.

According to the Egyptian presidency, Sisi expressed his best wishes for Iraq’s continued security, stability, and prosperity under the leadership of the new Iraqi government, while stressing Cairo’s eagerness to further strengthen the longstanding fraternal relationship between the two countries.

Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy said the Egyptian leader underscored the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors, particularly through ongoing preparations for the next session of the Egypt-Iraq Joint Higher Committee, which is expected to serve as a key platform for advancing economic and political coordination.

The call highlighted growing momentum in Egyptian-Iraqi relations, with both sides emphasizing closer cooperation in trade, investment, and regional diplomacy at a time of heightened instability across the Middle East.

For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi voiced appreciation for Sisi’s congratulatory call and reaffirmed Baghdad’s determination to continue developing relations with Egypt. He also stressed the importance of maintaining political coordination between the two Arab nations on major regional and international issues of shared concern.

Regional developments also featured prominently during the conversation. Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support for Iraq’s security and stability, while warning against the dangers of Iraq becoming entangled in regional conflicts that could threaten its internal balance and national security.

The Iraqi premier welcomed Egypt’s position, with both leaders agreeing on the need to intensify efforts aimed at safeguarding Arab sovereignty and protecting the stability of Arab states amid escalating regional challenges.

The discussion comes as Egypt continues to position itself as a central diplomatic actor seeking to contain regional escalation and preserve stability across the Arab world through coordinated political engagement with key regional partners, including Iraq.
