The FIFA Referees Committee announced that renowned Polish official Szymon Marciniak will referee the upcoming World Cup match between Egypt and Iran at Lumen Field. He will be supported in Seattle by assistant referees Tomasz Listkiewicz and Adam Kupsik, alongside Japanese fourth official Yusuke Araki and reserve assistant Jun Mihara.

This crucial Group G fixture marks the third career World Cup appearance for the highly experienced forty-five-year-old referee. He gained widespread global recognition after successfully officiating the historic 2022 World Cup final between Argentina and France in Qatar.

Extended International Experience Anchors World Cup Crew

Marciniak originally earned his international FIFA badge in 2011 after rising through the top division in Poland. He previously commanded major European tournament matches, including high-stakes fixtures at both the 2016 and 2024 UEFA European Championships.

The match in the Pacific Northwest will be his second assignment of this current tournament after he oversaw Argentina against Algeria. His vast tournament history ensures a steady and disciplined presence on the pitch for this decisive group stage battle.

Familiar Face for Egyptian Football Fans

The veteran Polish referee possesses direct knowledge of Egyptian football culture due to his previous high-profile domestic assignments in Cairo. He famously officiated the intense Egypt Cup final clash between local powerhouses Al Ahly and Zamalek.

He also managed a competitive Egyptian Premier League match between Al Ahly and Pyramids during the subsequent domestic season. This familiarity with key Egyptian national team players will provide a stable environment during the high-pressure clash against Iran.
